In 1909, the Verein für Volksgesundheit Winterthur purchased the area on Wolfensberg to expand the sunbathing area and create a new garden colony. The garden colony, known as Schrebergarten, was named after the Leipzig doctor Daniel Gottlieb Moritz Schreber, who promoted the idea of urban gardening.
